How to approach a putt

Putting is the most frustrating part of golf for most players. The reasons for so many of the struggles is that many people try to two putt rather than going for the hole, and the difficult breaks some greens provide.

“Forget the idea of a three-foot target area around the hole on long putts. Archers and pistol shooters aim for bulls-eyes, not the outer circles. Aim to make the putt.” -Bob Rotella

“Begin to dislike the look of a putt, and the chances of holing it at once become less.” -Joyce Wethered

To increase confidence in your putter, the best thing to do is practice. The most efficient way to do this is to use a putting training aid or outdoor green that is easily accessible and can be used in your spare time. By getting one of these your short game will greatly be improved and the levels of improvement are endless because of the realistic golf pitching mats that are also available.

Practicing

Golf is the most difficult sport to play at a high level due to the amount of practice necessary to break the ellusive barrier of par.

“I’ve never had a coach in my life. When I find one that can beat me, then I’ll listen.” - Lee Trevino

“Never try a shot you haven’t practiced.” -Harvey Penick

“The more I practiced the luckier I get.” -Gary Player

Coaches and instructors are useful to help your score, but they only help your game so much. In order to truly obtain the score you desire, practicing at home with useful training aids and even outdoor practice and driving mats that provide the realistic feel a driving range would provide without the expense.
