Gravity Golf:
Letting Mother Nature Do the Work

How many times have you cursed yourself under your breath because you knew you messed up a shot because you were trying too hard to control the club and ultimately – control the ball?

Gravity golf might the answer to help you quell your controlling nature, because when you adopt this training tactic, you let gravity take over and you’ll probably get more distance and accuracy on your game than ever before!

David Lee, the originator of the Gravity Golf concept, teaches his students to swing in a manner that minimizes the effort you put in so that you get more out of the results than if you gave it your very best, and most powerful forced effort.

Lee, a former PGA professional, developed Gravity Golf and published a book about it in 1976. Since then, he has developed a training school where he gets students to practice using Gravity Golf drills that take away your power and leave your swing in the hands of Mother Nature.

The drills include things such as hitting on one foot, with one arm, or doing both.  While it may sound difficult or unusual, the drills are meant to help you feel the gravitational force that naturally occurs with a golf swing.

Many of Lee’s students can out-drive and out-aim other golfers even using their practice drills stance – with one arm and one leg, hopping around and letting their muscle’s memory take control.

Instead of using your arm strength to pull a club back and then pull it forward during the follow-through, the golfer is taught to let the stronger back and shoulders do the work when the swing commences.

Your golf club will virtually float down into the follow-through, snapping the ball into motion without one ounce of pressure-pulling from your arms.  The tension is erased from the golf shot completely.

With David Lee’s instruction on the “counter-swing,” you learn how the backswing has you leaning away from the ball initially, and how your hip rotation keeps you balanced through the entire swing.  When you stand on one leg and practice this drill, you really feel the power of what Gravity Golf is all about.
